My new short film "The Night Witch" / by Alison Klayman

This animated Op-Doc explores the life of Nadezhda Popova, known as Nadia, who became a World War II hero as part of a Soviet all-female bombing regiment. This is one of five films commissioned in conjunction with The Times Magazine’s The Lives They Lived issue, which commemorates people who died in 2013.

"The Night Witch" will also be highlighted in the Dec 29th issue of the magazine. This animated, folk tale-like film was created with a group of amazing talents: drawn by the incredible chalkboard animator Dustin Grella, music by Never Sorry composer Ilan Isakov, co-written with Dan Kitrosser, and sound by R. Hollis Smith.

One day after publishing, "The Night Witch" is the #7 most-emailed New York Times story.
